Where Do I Buy My Project Materials

This is a big box  store, great for find dimensional lumber and some project supplies, they do offer a decent selection of tools that are used in woodworking such as Miter saws, benchtop tools (eg drill press, band saw, spindle sanders) you will not find Brands such as SawStop or Powermatic in their stores but can find brands such as Dewalt, Ridgid, Ryobi.

Kreg is another top quality manufacturer of tools, I use Kreg a lot and if you need tools for

  • Measuring
  • Cutting
  • Routing (I have their router table and fence and its awesome)
  • Joinery tools (The first tool I ever got from Kreg was their pocket hole jig, and it’s awesome, especially for people new to woodworking, it’s basically a tool that allows to attach 2 pieces of wood in what's called a butt joint and secure them with specialty screws.
  • Clamping solutions.

You should definitely check out their site!!!!

The old adage of "You get what you pay for" rings true for this store, it’s a bargain basement pricing store on a lot of tools and workshop day to day items, I have purchased a couple of tools here when I was starting out such as a drill press, chop saw, very cheap routers and pneumatic tools such as nailers and air compressors. I go here when I need a basic no frills tool until I can get a better-quality tool. You can receive mailings with huge discount coupons. Like I said their tools are ok quality.

Woodcraft is the opposite of a big box store, they have all the specialty tools and can find brands like Saw Stop , Powermatic and Festool in their store. They also have extremely knowledgeable staff familiar with woodworking disciplines, you can also find woodworking classes. To be honest a lot of their tools are out of my price range but some of the smaller tools like high end chisels or router accessories can also be found here.

One thing that I really like is that they always know my name when I go in and they also have an on-site woodworker with his own shop that sometimes he can demonstrate what he is talking about if and when you ask questions.

I find myself using online stores a lot more than I used to , to be honest I much rather go to a store and physically look at and hold tools or to be honest whatever I need for a project, but the more complicated projects that I am undertaking I simply cant find that what I need and it isn't in the brick and morter stores like what you see here Eg Home Depot or Lowes. Also I find myself saving a decent amount on certain tools and a lot of sellers provide free shipping. So definitely consider this source when you cant find what your looking for.

This store is a recognized brand in the woodworking world and although they do have a small footprint of brick and mortar stores their online presence is huge. To be honest I only use this store on a irregular basis because I guess I am just old fashioned a little and like to see what I am buying and need to see the item in person, but they have everything from top brand tools to almost every conceivable tool or product you need to get that woodworking project completed.
