CEDAR COOLER LID: REMAKE

So a year or so after I built this I decided that I don’t like the lid and a few friends collected about 600 bottle caps and I decided to use them on this revamp.

I used Glaze Coat 2 part epoxy on this project and I have to say it’s awesome but you have to be organized when working with it.. You have 15-20 minutes to work with it but as you can see the result can be outstanding.

This was my first time dealing with 2 part epoxy but I am please with the experience.

I also got to use my new Craftsman biscuit joiner to join all the pieces that the caps sit on..

Very happy and now to fill the cooler,

Lid remake is complete

I really struggled to find a pattern that I liked and to be honest its a very symmetrical design but its growing on me

It looks nice but it will look a whole lot better once its on the deck with drinks in it.

Over 600 bottle caps

My friends started bottle cap drives at each of their houses and this was the end result. I made this cooler in 2016 and it still going strong.

Getting ready to add epoxy

This was a nerve wrecking experience because I never did it before, but it came out awesome. I used green painters tape to protect the cedar.

Lid Remake

I remade the lid because I needed a sunken platform deep enough to keep the bottle caps contained and also a boundary so as that the epoxy couldn't fall off the edge of the lid.
