The design that I chose is 6 grooves that are inset approx. 3/8" from each edge of the trivet and both top and bottom faces of the piece creating this beautiful classical look. The finish I used is "NOT" food safe but in case of most finishes once the finish has fully cured inside it will be food safe.. approx.. 2 months. I used a oil based polyurethane blend & mineral spirits then hand sanded to 400grit sandpaper and then burnished until it felt very inviting to the touch.

Why Wood makes the best trivet material:

Trivets are designed to protect table tops and counters from damage by hot dishes or pans. Trivets are most often made of materials that tolerate and dispense a wide range of temperatures. The best trivets are made of Wood because wood transfers the least heat and will tolerate contact with hot metal, causing no damage. A good trivet should have as many grooves as possible, allowing air to circulate and dispense heat, preventing it from damaging the surface of the table or kitchen furniture.

Color and grain variations are natural characteristics of authentic wood surfaces. Due to the natural variation of color and grain in wood, there can and will be, slight variations in color and graining between our finished products. These variations contribute to the natural beauty of using organic material.
